THE Anti-Defamation League of the B'nai Brith, founded in the 1920s in the wake of the Leo Franks rapist affair in Atlanta, Georgia, has always acted as a self-appointed censor in the interests of the Jewish people and, more recently, those of the state of Israel.
The current director of this wealthy body (annual income, $60 million) is the corrupt and venal Abraham Foxman (right, annual salary $750,000).
We reproduce on this website an unusual document showing how in 1933 the ADL was already working to stifle new books of which it disapproved. The book in question then was Madison Grant's four hundred page volume, The Conquest of a Continent; or, The Expansion of Races in America (published in New York in 1933 by the prestigious firm of C. Scribner's sons, London, reprinted in 1934, and reprinted again by Arno Press in 1977).
In 1933 the ADL will have found it harder to exercise an influence on the American world of publishing than today, the 21st century, when the New York publishing industry is very largely Jewish-staffed and directed, and the principal trade magazines like the influential Library Journal, Kirkus, and Publisher's Weekly are entirely Jewish in character and sentiment.
In 1977 it would suffice for the ADL to register a murmur, and Washington television producers would hurry to allow its agents to participate in discussion programs on World War II and history, if not to get the program -- reviewing my famous biography Hitler's War (The Viking Press, 1977) cancelled entirely. Of course I only found this out by chance twenty years later, when I saw the relevant document.
In 1996 the ADL was able to bring such pressure to bear on St Martin's Press -- by publishing private addresses, by organising street demos, by coercing departmental staff to threaten strikes, and by smear campaigns, -- that in April 1966 the terrified publisher cancelled my biography of Goebbels, violating my contract with them, although the book had already been nominated History Book of the Month by the Doubleday Book Club; and a few weeks later they forced Tom McCormack, the veteran chief executive of St Martins Press, to resign.
More recently still -- in 2004 -- they brought pressure on the advertising suppliers of www.Rense.com to cancel their advertising, to bring pressure to bear on this famous independent website (this is one reason why we shall never accept advertising on the AR-Online website). So nothing has really changed since 1933.
We will always publish here further instances of behind the scenes lobbying by the ADL against the interests of free research and free speech, whenever they come to our attention.

Mini-gloat: Our website consistently outranks the (annual budget: $60m) ADL website on the World Wide Web
